dove evolution


This advert is a good example of how institutes like dove are trying to get across how much the media manipulates our thoughts on what a beautiful woman looks like. For my practical piece I would like to do an advert demonstrating to people how the media manipulates women. I want to try and get across that the women that people see in the media, have been through hours of hair and make and and a lot of photoshopping. Too many young girls are seeing these women and thinking that they aren't beautiful in comparison to the women in the media. I want to try and create an advert that will change people's views.

Looking at that little role of fat looks normal and familiar to most women but seeing it in a high fashion looks out of place as we are so used to seeing perfect images of perfect women, with every blemish removed.

The glamour editor, Cindi Lieve received hundreds of emails from women so happy to finally see a real women in their magazines.


"People don't ever see images like this in magazines," says Miller. "It shows how hungry the world is to see all different body types. On any fashion shoot, there is a whole lot of smoke and mirrors – hair, makeup, lighting, retouching. But this photograph wasn't airbrushed, it was real. That was what people were reacting to."


This was a quote from Lisa Miller (photographed), she describes it as a revelation. She says that when she was on set even the skinny girls has stretch marks and other impurities, but by the time the photo's they had been airbrushed out.
